Vivian Cook编著的《第二语言学习与教学》是写给从事英语第二语言教学的教师和攻读应用语言学专业的研究生的—本专著,目的是介绍第二语言习得研究的一些观点以及这些观点对语言教学的指导。作者不是从头到尾进行理论阐述,而是在很多地方援引事例说明问题,因此读者们要去体会这些事例的意义。这本书语言流畅,叙述深入浅出,每章的后面都附有讨论题目、参考书目和术语解释。书的每章分成若干小节,大部分小节前面都有重点提示和关键词解释,后面则附有小结。作者的这些努力使得没有专门语言学知识的人也能基本读懂这本书。
