在国际交流日益频繁、新闻传播日益全球化同时媒介融合趋势越来越明显的背景下，为了培养既了解新闻专业知识又能熟练运用英语进行新闻传播工作的应用型人才，编者编写了这本《新闻英语实用教程》。
《新闻英语实用教程》(作者杜俊伟、刘芬)是在参阅了大量国内外有关新闻英语的文献资料，并经过多年的新闻英语教学实践检验后历时两年，边编写边进行教学实验，在教学实践中挑选出其中对新闻专业学生能力培养最为关键的内容编撰而成的。本教材的特点是，新闻专业知识直观系统，专业内容深^浅出，英语语言地道标准，可以使新闻专业读者在系统了解新闻专业知识的同时真正提高英语新闻的阅读能力和写作能力。既是一本适合新闻专业学生进行英语学习的教材，同时也是一本适合英语专业学生了解新闻知识、提高利用英语语言在实际生活中获取信息的应用能力(如读英语新闻，收听、收看英语新闻等)的阅读资料。
《新闻英语实用教程》分为十三个章节，全面系统地介绍了新闻英语各项基本知识。第一章介绍新闻业的基本理论问题，第二章介绍新闻英语的体裁，第三章介绍英语新闻的阅读技巧，第四章介绍英语新闻的视听技巧，第五章介绍英语新闻标题的写作，第六章介绍英语新闻导语的写作，第七章介绍英语新闻中的倒金字塔结构和—般消息的写作，第八章介绍英语新闻特稿的写作，第九章介绍如何使消息更加准确、简明和有趣，第十章介绍如何使用背景，第十一章介绍新闻报道中的偏见与倾向性，第十二章介绍英语国家的新闻业概况，第十三章介绍世界著名通讯社及媒体，最后的附录部分收录了新闻英语的常用词汇。除了全面训练和提升新闻专业学生和新闻工作者应用英语语言进行新闻工作的能力，本书对于英语专业学生和其他读者了解新闻英语、扩大英语词汇量、进行中英新闻翻译等都有很好的工具性作用。
另外，本教材每章都有配套练习题或讨论题，对读者加强记忆、理解和运用相关技能解决实际问题有很好的辅助性作用。
