本书是作者近年来对中国及其中国在未来世界中承担全球领导角色的探讨。该书把19世纪至20世纪全球转型时期西方重要理论家马克斯•韦伯的研究，与20世纪至21世纪全球转型时期对*的思想的研究富有成效地联系起来。作者认为：一方面，西方经典理论仍然能为今天全球合作的重新思考提供:核心思想；另一方面，尽管*近年来提出的“一带一路”倡议试图展示中国如何成为世界新兴力量以帮助弥合世界分歧，但他对中国治国理政的思考表明，这一举措旨在成为促进全球和平与合作的手段，而非加剧大国的对抗。本书有助于中外读者更深层次地了解中国，了解它将如何参与全球治理并为共同的人类未来做出贡献。
