简介
《英国社会与文化》不再偏重语言训练或一般史料或表层文化的介绍，而是一部文化素质培养课教材，注重培养学生的分析能力、思辨能力和语言表达能力，体现文化素质教育的特点。所选内容全面系统，较好地体现了专业知识课程的内涵，具有先进性和前沿性的特点。同时，本教材以适应立体化教学需要，拓宽教学途径，以适应网络环境下教师对学生的管理和指导，有效地引导学生开展课外自主学习。全书图文并茂，信息量大，可以改变传统教材让学生吃不饱的局面。
《英国社会与文化》属于文化素质课教材范畴，因此在组织课堂教学时，教师应尤其注意知识性和信息量，采用专题讲授和课堂讨论相结合的方式，充分利用现代化教育技术，尽量使用多媒体授课，并建立教师、教材、学生、网络一体化的教学体系，将课堂教学与学生自主学习紧密联系起来。对学生的课程考核也应采取多种手段，即把开卷和闭卷考试结合起来，着重考查学生发现问题、分析问题的能力。将撰写读书报告、小组讨论、总结汇报和小论文等具有启发性的课外作业统一纳入考核范围，全面考查学生对英国社会与文化的理解和把握水平。
