《仙后》是埃德蒙·斯宾塞诗歌创作的巅峰，也是英国文艺复兴时期诗歌以及英语诗歌的重要代表。全书分为十二卷，描写年轻的王子亚瑟与仙国一年一度的十二天宴会派出的十二位骑士相遇并共同冒险，每位骑士均代表着一种品德，通过与十二位骑士的探求，使年轻的亚瑟成为最高品德的化身。直到去世，斯宾塞只完成了全书的前六卷和第七卷的一部分，共三万五千余行，但这丝毫无法掩盖这部宏篇大制的光辉。通过斯宾塞对古代作品的通晓，他独创的格律形式——“斯宾塞诗节”，以及将骑士传奇、民族史诗、道德寓言融为一体的完美技巧，我们将进入这部巨匠创作的典范。
