　　 since the beginning of critical approach towards modernism architectural critics and historians are desperately trying to find the answer to the question, what will be the next 'great style.throughout the historg of architecture, formal feature's characteristic for each epoch could be classified into a set of general rules,described as architectural stgles. although those stgles were constantlg evolving, merging, forming complex hgbrids, often even occurring in parallel, and buildings representing particular style were rarely perfectly fitting in its rigid definition, knowledge of the style's characteristics was giving relativelg good impression about the architecture of corresponding era. 　　 what is contemporarg architecture? can we specifg ang set of formal or ideological characteristics which could describe buildings of our epoch? over time it becomes increasingly difficult to assign all trends occurring globally or even locally to one coherent ideological or stylistic phenomenon. emerging theories,instead al crystallizing, are constantlg evolving, rapidly gaining popularitg, to disappear just as quickly. architecture is more and more like a fashion --the popularity of certain trends changes almost with seasons. depending on the building's function,architectural, geographical or cultural context or projects budget architecrs are often applying very different design strategies. they 'recgcle' existing ideas and architectural forms, selecting those suggested by the context or their own imagination, lt creates surprising hybrids and mutations of existing styles. contemporary architectural discourse is extremely dynamic and multifaceted--no idea or approach is able to achieve dominant position, but at the same time many different trends are gaining bigger or smaller groups of followers.
